Simply Music FAQ's
There are many theories and ideas about how to answer the question of when, and we recommend you speak to as many people as you can to make the decision that best fits your child’s needs. We at The
Complete Child and You believe the following will help you choose the right time and right instrument for your child:
1. Ensure that your child wants to learn the piano. They will be far more likely to want to play and practice if you have allowed them to choose rather than choosing for them.
2. Make sure they have the attention span to attend to at least 3 – 5 minutes at a time over the course of a lesson and to practice for at least 15 mins per day, 6 days per week. This level of practice is a requirement for learning Simply Music
3. Ensure they have the physical ability to be successful at the piano; for example they need the strength in their fingers to push down the notes of the piano and coordination in both hands to do this with individual fingers as well as pressing several notes down at the same time. If not, find activities that specifically work on those areas to help them prepare their bodies for the act of playing
(which may include the classes in Kindermusik).
4. Your child will need to know the alphabet from A to G and understand the concept of up and down the piano
5. Remember that any long term relationship will have its ups and downs and its plateaus. If you are embarking on creating a future for your child that includes a long term relationship with music on the piano, you will need to consider that there will be times your child goes through highs, lows and plateaus of
learning. Be prepared to recognise these and support your child, as these are the usual fluctuations associated with the development of every long term relationship. It is the down times when your child will need your support to continue to the next time they feel up again!! Remember that people do not leave marriages or long term relationships when the going is good!!!
6. If still in doubt, please call us for an assessment of your child’s readiness for learning
