Village Program
This program is designed to stimulate all your baby’s senses. The classes have around 15 – 17 activities each week and include a
welcome and goodbye song, massage time, rocking time, quiet time, singing, dancing/movement activities, playing percussion instruments
(bells, drums, egg shakers etc), exploring objects you would find at home in order to educate parents how to do this; and language games.
Our Time Program
Classes have around 12 different activities each week which include a gathering time to settle the children in, welcome and goodbye songs,
dancing, playing percussion instruments, language/singing games, story time, steady beat activities (such as bouncing songs), rocking time,
circle dancing and specific listening activities.
Imagine That! Program
In the classes, we play imaginary games around a particular theme. We encourage even more singing, imagining places and items from the
world around them; we deepen the listening activities to include differentiating sounds, play instruments, have story time, include lots
of question and answer games to expand their cognitive (thinking) processes e.g. how, what, why etc. There are a variety of activities
that we do each week with the parents including circle dances, rocking, games, playing instruments, playing with other objects such as
balls, hoops and scarves.
How can I continue this at home for my child’s best learning?
>>
Families receive a set of high quality At Home Kindermusik materials that complements each program. The kits are more than just an adjunct – they are an essential part of the program. The children need these kits to be used at home every week, to enable them to get more out of each program. The kits vary from age group to age group but contain the following:
Music CD(s)
Musical instrument eg, tapping sticks etc (Our Time and Imagine That! only)
Workbook with song lyrics and ideas to improve your child’s learning experience, and other home activities
Storybook/s
Imagine That! also comes with a backpack and a game
What benefits does Kindermusik give to the children?
>>
Children of all ages benefit from involvement with Kindermusik. There is so much they learn it is hard to fit it all in a small paragraph!!
Kindermusik Village is aimed at babies and is designed to stimulate all areas of their development and give them the fundamentals of music. All children learn through play so if you make an activity fun and have a focus on what you want them to learn, they learn! Children at this age need an enormous amount of repetition to build their brains. In our program, babies begin to recognise familiar songs and movements, express their emotions through smiling or laughing or moving their bodies (often to the music). They begin to recognise other people and children and interact with them. The program enables them to become familiar with a more structured routine, whilst allowing them to explore their environment. They also begin to recognise the music and home and many parents use their Kindermusik songs and music to calm an upset child, divert their attention from unpleasant tasks (such as nappy change time), put them to sleep and also to help them learn.
Kindermusik Our Time is aimed at providing toddlers/pre-school children with the opportunity to further develop physical skills, begin the process of more formalised social interactions, developing the listening ear and encouraging following of instructions, and build on their musical skills, to name a few things. Parent or adult interaction in this process is vital as children of this age have rapidly developing emotions, which often require security of cuddles, whilst finding their independence. Children also learn the things they do by modelling, so an adult is required to participate fully to ensure the maximum benefit. Finally, they learn about structured activities and to take turns, share, and how to have fun!
Kindermusik Imagine That! encourages pre-school and kindergarten aged children to begin to prepare them for pre-school and school activities, and so has more emphasis on their growing independence, and rapidly developing social, cognitive and emotional skills. The children attend the first half of the class alone with the teacher, whilst parents/adults wait outside. The last 15 mins of the class, we all join in together, so that the children know the parent is involved and the parent gets to be part of their learning. Specific at home activities are often required in this class, to further their development. The children begin to be able to express a steady beat, wait their turn to speak, listen to others, develop improved listening skills for musicianship, learn some basic musical terminology, learn how to tell stories, learn to develop their imagination, which is a fundamental requirement for social development and understanding of the world around them.

Can I bring other siblings?
>>
Due to the importance of your full participation in the program, we allow children up to 7 mths in the Village and Our Time classes. However, during that time the parent does need to be able to focus his/her attention on the enrolled child. After 7 mths, we negotiate to determine if the younger sibling is content to stay in the pram and watch!! J
In the Imagine That! class, younger siblings are invited to join the parents in the last 15 mins of the class with the enrolled child .

Sharlene Halbert is a trained Occupational Therapist, Kindermusik Educator and Licensed Simply Music teacher. After working for over 15 years as an Occupational Therapist in a variety of settings including schools, outpatient facilities (children and adults), inpatient facilities, and in the community with people with disabilities, and after a variety of interesting jobs (including running a health retreat), she found her way to Kindermusik and Simply Music. With a strong background in singing, 10 years of traditional piano lessons, 4 years of violin lessons and a lot of self taught guitar, Kindermusik and Simply Music seemed the perfect way to mould together all her passions and create another passion – engaging children and families in the fun and joy of music. In both 2004 and 2005, she was awarded Maestro status by Kindermusik International, given to the top 5% of Kindermusik in the world, for her work in providing Kindermusik to families across the north shore of Sydney.
